The joy that my students get when they finally grasp the concept fully, when they have gained new skills, and when they could tackle a challenging question, is where my passion for teaching comes from; and is the impetus that pushes me to constantly improve my teaching method.
Instead of merely going through the textbook, I adopt my own, unique method of teaching Chemistry. Not only I would require all of my students to complete a set of homework before the next lesson, but I would also provide 'sudden' quizzes for them regularly. By finishing homework beforehand regularly, they could then have regular training on a specific topic and hence they could consolidate the knowledge that I have imparted to them. More importantly, I could check their understanding by evaluating their performance and adjust my pace of teaching accordingly. As for the 'sudden quizzes', I would provide a quiz covering all of the taught topics in lesson, but without notifying them beforehand. I believe such a method could help them to revise all previous topics effectively, and furthermore, this could train up students' mentality to cope with the exam.
One of the most crucial things that private tutors should offer is tailor-made teaching. In secondary schools, only one subject teacher could hardly cater for the needs of all students. However, we, as their tutor, could identify their weakness by asking them direct questions and completing exercises. Subsequently, tutors could tailor-made their teaching schedule and exercise to improve students' results significantly. In addition, tutors could provide additional resources and teach more examination skills to students. Unlike in secondary school, teachers may not even have ample time to finish teaching all topics, let alone teaching answering techniques and skills for doing questions. Therefore, this is where tutors come in and help them to acquire these skills.
