What do I enjoy most about tutoring?😁
I love that tutoring gives me a lot of independence. I do not need to involve myself in the business side of a company, instead I get to solely focus on what my students need and what is best for them. The flexibility that comes with tutoring also allows me to balance other commitments in life as well.
While I was on a brief break from work, I absolutely missed the connection I formed with my students. I loved learning about other parts of their lives beyond their studies. I got to be a role model for my students, such as teaching them how to not just approach academics, but also social life and mental health. Therefore, I want to get back into tutoring to fill that void.
My Strengths as Tutor💪
One of my greatest strengths is that I am flexible while I'm tutoring. I know that every student learns at their own pace and have strengths and weaknesses unique to them. If a particular teaching approach does not seem to work well with a student, I tend to alter my teaching techniques to meet the individual needs of each student.
Another strength of mine is that I am patient with my students. I believe students learn best in a comfortable and safe environment rather than a stressful environment. Patience tends to play a key role when I see students struggling to understand a certain teaching material. To help them move past this hurdle, I take tasks slower, keep reviewing the material and keep them engaged and motivated with it.
Most important things I can do for a student🏅
One of the most important things a tutor should do is to create independent learners. By that, I mean helping students transform from being solely dependent on their teachers to no longer needing their help and eventually managing their studies mostly on their own. To do so, a tutor has to teach and instil effective study techniques that will serve them well in academics and in life. Some of the skills that most students lack are the organization, time management and focus required in completing a task. Hence, I concentrate on helping them develop such skills.
Besides, an effective tutor has to be enthusiastic about her teaching and the subject that he/she teaches. I always make sure to display my love for English, which then rubs off on my students. It just makes learning more enjoyable for them.
Last but not least, it is very important for a good tutor to ask their students good, open-ended questions. I am pretty big on this because I like being a guide and seeing my students lead themselves to the right answer. I can not only encourage their independence, but I can also check their understanding along the way. It allows me to be able to go over something again if they still do not understand something.

About Me
I am basically from Pakistan but was born and raised in Hong Kong. I recently graduated from The University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Psychology. I have tutored a range of students from the kindergarten level to the primary school level. I also have experience in teaching students from K1-P6 in two different learning centres. Having studied in local schools since kindergarten, I can speak fluently in Cantonese. While I was working as a full-time English teacher in one of the learning centres, I mostly used Cantonese to deliver English lessons, assist students with their homework and exams and communicate with them and their parents. I have always loved working with children and I always look forward to their ‘Aha!’ moments. I like to make my students feel comfortable by showing my easy-going and trustworthy personality from the get go.
Experience
1-2
I have always had a great passion for any language, especially English. While I was in university, I started tutoring English to kindergarten and primary school students who needed extra help with their English.
I continued teaching English but in learning centres for the past nine months. I planned English lessons based on students' weakness in aspect, such as grammar, speaking, reading, writing and phonics.
On top of delivering English lessons to students who were particularly weak in English, I also assisted a group of students with their homework of all subjects. Therefore, I am quite familiar with the curriculum taught in primary schools and it allowed me to better plan my lessons based on the knowledge they were being taught in school. I was also able to keep them on track with their assignments and improve their attitude towards homework.
