Bell

Every year, Bell helps more than 100,000 students from more than 120 countries to learn English through one of its 37 worldwide teaching centres and e-channels. UK-based summer courses for international students are held at Bell’s own international centre in Bedgebury or at top UK boarding schools, including Ardingly College, Bloxham School, Cobham Hall, and The Leys School. Bell are an English UK member and are accredited by the British Council.

Group Courses

Bell runs an all-inclusive summer programme for groups (15 students minimum) that combine expert language tuition with UK travel and activities. Courses include residential on-site accommodation, airport transfers from selected airports, and travel insurance. Bell can also set up tailor-made courses for groups at any time of year. Christmas Course

Bell Bedgebury runs a Christmas course at its Cambridge centre. The course is two weeks long and gives students an opportunity to experience traditional British Christmas activities, such as a carol concert and a pantomime. Students on the course receive 15 hours of group lessons, 1 hour of lectures, and 24 hours of guided study each week. Class sizes are a maximum of 12. The minimum age for this course is 16 and students must have elementary or better English language skills. The 2012 course will commence on 23 December 2012 and end on 5 January 2013.

Easter and Summer Courses

Bell offer six English language courses for students between the ages of 8 and 17 and an A level and IB preparation courses for students about to join year 12 at a UK school:

Active English (Ages 8 to 17): Perfect for students who want to try a wide range of activities. . The course can be taken at Bloxham School, Oxfordshire (ages 11 to 17); Cobham Hall, Kent (ages 8 to 13); or Bedgebury International School, Kent (ages 12 to 17).

Academic English (Ages 12 to17): The ideal course for students who want extra time to focus on their English language studies. In addition to the core 15 hour language programme, students can choose one of the following options:

  • Exam skills and techniques
  • English literature
  • Language skills development

 

 

It is held at The Leys School, Cambridge. Students may join the course for 2, 4 or 6 weeks.

Focus English (Ages 12 to 17): In addition to studying 15 hours of English per week, students take a six hour focus option in one of the following areas:

  • Team sports
  • Football
  • Tennis
  • Performing Arts
  • Horse-riding (Wellington College only)
  • Arts and crafts

 

The course comprises 15 hours of English study, 6 hours of activities, 9 hours of study tours, and 22 hours of events. The course is held at The Leys School, Cambridge and Wellington College, Berkshire.

Olympic Focus English (Ages 12 to 17): Olympic Focus English includes the same core content as Focus English, but adds a special option to celebrate the Olympic games. Students will:

  • Develop their English language whilst learning about the history of the games and famous Olympians
  • Receive coaching in Olympic sports including fencing and table tennis
  • Visit an Olympic venue or attend either a table tennis or fencing event at London 2012 (only for courses operating during the Olympics)

 

Young Achievers (Ages 12 to 17): A new course from Bell that allows young learners to gain certification in their chosen activity plus a Trinity GESE speaking exam demonstrating their English language skills. The programmes available are:

  • Water sports: students work towards the BCU 1 Star award in canoeing and get to try sports such as sailing or raft building
  • Performing arts: students have the opportunity to gain a Trinity Guildhall Speech and Drama award as part of a varied programme of performing arts.
  • Outdoor survival skills: Students take part in a range of team-building, problem solving and outdoor activities, gaining certificates in survival skills and first aid.
  • Technology: students gain certification in information and communications technology (ICT), exploring subjects such as music technology and animation.

Young Business Leaders (Ages 14 to 17): A three-week course at prestigious boarding school Wellington College, Berkshire, which helps students to improve their English and gives them the opportunity to:

  • Take part in the Bell Business Challenge and learn the skills required to establish a  business, from conducting market analysis to developing a business plan and defining team roles and responsibilities.
  • Get inspired by the experts through talks from business people and entrepreneurs.
  • Visit a variety of topical destinations, such as Mercedes-Benz World and the Museum of Brands, Packaging and Advertising.

 

The course comprises 15 hours of English study, 6 hours of activities, 9 hours of study tours, and 22 hours of events..

A Level and IB Preparation: This course, which takes place at Bell Bedgebury School in Kent, is aimed at students who will be moving to the UK to begin their A Level or IB Diploma studies in September 2012. The course includes tuition in the following areas:

  • English for academic purposes
  • Academic skills (e.g. reading and note-taking)
  • Subject tuition in students’ chosen A Level / IB Diploma subjects

 

Students will also get to experience British life and culture. Students may take either a 2 week or a 4 week course.
