ACT and SAT college entrance testing halted because of coronavirus

By Mike Li

Coronavirus has halted the April ACT and May SAT in the US. With similar cancellations in Hong Kong and around the world, it seems like the next earliest opportunity for any US-university-bound student will be the ACT on June 13th, but even this is pending the progress of the worldwide pandemic.

Students registered for AP exams must wait until at least March 20th to know if their exams will be cancelled or altered. The College Board has not ruled out administering AP exams online, but nothing concrete has yet been announced.

With students mostly at home and out of their normal school routine, this could in fact be seen as a perfect opportunity for online prep for students who have had their SAT/ACT test dates cancelled (or simply intend to take either test later) to extend and improve on their preparation. Over the years, ITS has seen students who prepare for their SAT/ACT for 6 months or more average triple the score improvement than students who prepare 3 months or less. This has been demonstrated across all test takers. So instead of being disappointed not to get it out of the way, see it as an opportunity to aim for a dream school.
