IGCSE Results Hong Kong
What Can We Help You With?

Every year, when International GCSE (IGCSE) results come out, we always hope students have achieved the grades they wanted. If you did then most probably you are going to continue with whatever course of action you had planned through the year, such as going on to take your A-levels or the International Baccalaureate (IB). The IGCSE also allows students to move to vocational education (such as BTEC) and is generally considered the minimum qualification for employment. Below you can find some answers to frequently asked questions about what you can do next after finishing your IGCSEs.

Choosing Your Path After IGCSE

Your IGCSE results are a launching pad — not a final destination. ITS helps you understand what they mean and plan your next two years wisely.

1

Review Your IGCSE Results

Understand which grades open the doors to A-level, IB Diploma, or other post-16 study routes.

2

Choose Your Next Qualification

A-levels, IB Diploma, BTEC or Private Candidate — the right choice depends on your university ambitions and learning style.

3

Select Your Subjects Wisely

Your A-level or IB subject choices now will directly determine which university degrees you can apply for.

4

Move Forward With Confidence

Whether retaking, transferring schools, or starting a new programme — ITS is here to guide you every step.

What should I do if I got a better than expected IGCSE result?

Congratulations! If you already have an educational pathway in mind — for example doing the IB Diploma or A-levels at school — then you can just carry on, and get assistance with your courses from us as and when you need it.

If you are not entirely sure — maybe you are considering exactly which subjects to take — then contact us for a free consultation. Choosing A-level subjects or IB Diploma Higher Levels is often crucial in determining what degree courses you can apply for. This is not just about the next 2 years — it is about the next 5 or 6. Getting the subject selection right now gives you the widest possible choice later.

What are my options if my IGCSE grades were weaker than expected?

This may depend a little bit on your current school. They may have rules for what you can do next — for example, a minimum grade to continue into their sixth form or IB programme. If what the school allows you to do is not entirely what you would like to do, then come and see us.

ITS is Hong Kong's only official A-level centre with non-traditional learning approaches. Our full-time "private candidate" students study 3 A-level subjects with as little as 6 hours per week of classroom time. With flexible options to suit many different approaches and philosophies for education, we can often find a path that works even when a conventional school cannot. Come and speak to us with no obligation.

I only just missed my grades — what do I do?

You have several options worth considering. You can discuss your situation with your exam centre — it is possible to retake individual subjects. It might also be worth considering having the paper remarked, especially if you were very close to the grade boundary. Alternatively, you could redo an IGCSE subject with ITS alongside your other plans.

Speak to us about how any of these options could be achieved around your current school or work plans. Sometimes a single grade improvement in a key subject makes a significant difference to what A-level or IB courses you can access.

What if I want to do A-levels, but my school doesn't offer them?

One option would be becoming a private candidate with ITS — the only non-traditional official A-level and IGCSE centre in Hong Kong. You do both your learning and your exams at ITS. We offer both a two-year programme and an accelerated one-year International A-level Science programme covering Maths plus Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Or you can have a personally tailored programme set up for you.

Alternatively, you can do an additional A-level with us on top of your existing school curriculum — for example to add a science or a language subject that your school doesn't offer. Contact us for more information or have a look at our Private Candidate page.

We also offer a bespoke school search service for schools in the UK — from boarding schools to sixth form colleges.

Whether your IGCSE results are stronger or weaker than expected, there will be schools that are a good fit for you. Let us help you find them.
