Australia's school education report card

By ITS Education Asia

Here is an interesting article from the Sydney Morning Herald giving a report card on the Australian education system by Peter Adams, the Melbourne-based global director for The Balanced Scorecard for Schools program with Marshall Cavendish Education, Singapore.

One significant take away from this article is the poor state of indigenous education in Australia.

“Australian education remains in many respects unequal, with marked disparities in opportunities and outcomes. Overall, our Indigenous students’ average scores in NAPLAN can be two or more year levels of schooling below non-Indigenous students.”

Being an Australian myself and having taught there for many years I have seen firsthand the problems Australia faces when trying to improve education access to indigenous Australians. Hopefully more can be done.
