All parents have heard the pleading cries of “5 more minutes,” or the complaint that the journey to school is too hard. They should read this article with the inspiring story of Gilbert Otyeng, a 16-year-old Kenyan standard four pupil who has to crawl for about 1.5km to school every morning. He makes this journey three times a day. He crawls to school in the morning, and then crawls back home for lunch, and back again to school for afternoon lessons. He crawls on average 6km a day just to go to school, further than most people walk in Hong Kong in a day. Let us not forget about how tough this must be during the rainy season.
His legs became paralysed at the age of five, but that has not slowed this courageous student.
His favourite subjects are science, English and mathematics. Despite the hardships and the treacherous terrain his teachers say he is never late.
