Changing Times

By Ruth Puentespina

Childhood isn’t the same today as it was fifty, or even twenty years ago. The Era of Technology has ushered in changes that are most acutely felt by young children and teenagers. Concerns about online misinformation, which puts this segment of the population at risk of abuse coupled with increasing globalisation and environmental issues such as global warming, make for what looks to be a bleak future ahead.

However, the same potentially negative outcomes have produced some positive effects: more children and young adults have taken it upon themselves to be educated in the concerns of the world they live in and are demanding urgent action. Calls to prioritise mental health treatment and rehabilitation among the young are being heeded by many governments in the West. The largest global climate strike in the name of global warming happens today and is one such example of taking the world and its future into their hands.
