Chinese province Guangdong clamps down on school bullies with tougher penalties

Guangdong province will implement harsh penalties on school bullies from December 1, a year after the national plan to address this issue was released across China. Categorized into three levels, each with a corresponding consequence ranging from detention and expulsion to being criminally charged, these penalties look to be the most straightforward solution to address the rampant school violence Chinese students regularly face.

Should Hong Kong follow suit and come up with our own forms of legislation to address our bullying problems? Although that remains to be seen, this city is already dealing with its consequences as seen by the increase in both teenage suicide and teenage mental health issues.
