The Corona virus continues to impact us all. Here is an article from the SCMP about the efforts of some Head Teachers in Hong Kong who are attempting to find accommodation for over 130 students from the mainland who need to come to HK to sit public university entrance exams.
Head teachers in Hong Kong are scrambling to find accommodation for more than 130 cross-border pupils who live in mainland China, but need to spend two months in the city taking the local public university entrance exams.
With a 14-day mandatory quarantine still in place because of the coronavirus epidemic, pupils living just across the border in Shenzhen are unable to commute on a daily basis, as was the norm before the outbreak.
Two associations representing head teachers in Tai Po and North district said they were trying to set up study camps in Hong Kong to accommodate those expecting to take the Diploma of Secondary Education (DSE) exams, which begin on March 27, and end in May.
There are more than 700 Hong Kong pupils taking the DSE exams living in Shenzhen who face being quarantined when they enter the city, of which about 370 are school candidates, and the rest are private candidates.
The Education Bureau said cross-border candidates without a place to stay in Hong Kong would be required to stay at government quarantine facilities, and would only be able to take exams if they showed no symptoms of fever or acute respiratory illness.
One hopes that efforts to help these young people are successful.
