The good news is that Hong Kong schools are soon to start re-opening. However they will be very different from what students are used to. This article from the SCMP is discussing some of the new disinfecting measures that schools will need to introduce.
As hundreds of Hong Kong schools prepare for a phased resumption of classes in two weeks, some have decided to step up coronavirus disinfection measures by spraying the entire campus with an antibacterial protective layer and equipping their libraries with book sanitisers.
All schools resuming classes amid the pandemic are required to follow a set of guidelines issued by the government on Wednesday.
While some international schools are resuming classes from May 20, senior secondary students at local schools are to return on May 27, and lower secondary and primary school students in June.
Under the guidelines, objects frequently touched by students – including books, toys, shared objects and floor surfaces – should be cleaned and disinfected at least twice a day with diluted bleach.
Government-mandated rules introduced this week also include having students face one direction during lunch and staying a metre apart when queuing.
One does wonder how these new rules will be implemented and enforced. Given that Hong Kong seems to have the Coronavirus under control we are all hopeful that these new regulations will not be needed for very long and children’s lives can return to normal.
