Could the coronavirus be the best thing to happen to higher education?

By ITS Education Asia

Dawn Lerman and Falguni Sen from The World University Rankings argue that Covid-19 has given on opportunity to build on the speed and enthusiasm with which academics have embraced online teaching.

To continue with education, and to reduce the spread of coronavirus, stakeholders at higher education reluctantly mobilized towards online lessons. They state that academics are notoriously slow to change. However many higher education institutions changed overnight to ensure continuation of their student’s education. Their concern is that once the virus is over the schools may revert to their old system.

Lerman and Sen agree once we get beyond the current crisis, universities should shift the focus from basic training on tools to more advanced training incorporating course design and assessment of learning.
