Education does not always equal social mobility

By Gary Hadler

Why doing some research I came across this interesting article published late last year in The Conversation. As an Economics teacher and former career adviser I just always assumed improved education would be a sure way to climb the social ladder.

This article questions those assumptions for many countries. The research quoted shows significant differences in the amount improved education opportunities allow a person to climb the social hierarchy. There seems to be a much greater level of impact on a person’s opportunities related to their parents’ education and income.
