In a recent article published in the BBC, Cardiff University findings showed that mothers using a “controlling tone of voice” were less effective at communicating with their children and were perceived as less supportive. This was cause for more arguments leading to a more stressed home environment. As teenagers navigate through their confusing adolescence, looking to their parents for support is ideal. This can be achieved through using more open communication skills, exercised by both parents and children. Understandably, if parents are stressed, tired or pressured themselves this is difficult to do. Being more compassionate with each other will allow for a shift in the family dynamic. In the long run, family relationships can be improved if both parties come into a discussion with patience and the willingness to hear each other out.
