A nice piece from Eric J Barron President of Penn State, identifying the up and coming “post-millenial” generation and their attitude to work/career expectations. Increasingly they see their higher education as a crucial step in their entrepreneurial aspirations not just for what they may learn but for the connections and opportunities they will derive and the collaborations that can help them launch businesses. While this has been happening for a while it has tended to be limited to a handful of brilliant academic students at the best endowed universities. But this is now becoming a much more prevalent - possibly generational - approach. With the end of iron rice bowls it is worth everyone keeping an eye on how this pans out.
