Home education: court rules against German Christian family

By Gary Hadler

This BBC article from the BBC raises some interesting questions that apply to all countries that have compulsory education. In this case the parents were deeply religious and argued “that even Christian private schools could leave their children exposed to "unwanted influences.”

However, the Authorities claimed the children were growing up in a "parallel world", and that they would struggle to become part of the community and learn crucial social skills, such as tolerance.”

Personally I agree with compulsory education and that home schooling should only be allowed with special and exceptional circumstances. Nonetheless, this is changing with parents having greater access to online teaching support for children.
