Recent research from Harvard indicates that while STEM subjects have received a lot of political and media capital and thus plenty of actual capital over the past few years, this does not necessarily translate into making them a good choice for university majors. STEM graduates often start on better salaries (at least the 50% that actually go into STEM-related jobs) but lose their early advantages because a) their fields often change rapidly leaving them either behind or needing more continuing education and b) those on an upward career path find the required skill-set quickly moves away from the academic basis of STEM into other things such as soft skills, management, business strategy and the like so other graduates catch up. With application deadlines coming up, ensure you make sensible long-term decisions about course choice.
