Minimal accessibility to mental health services at universities across the country - realistically, around the world - are a reflection of what is going on in society. As much as focus has shifted to the importance of mental health, social institutions - from universities to hospitals - have not been able to keep up. In the UK, university students feel that their schools are letting them down with the lack of services available to them. Expectations have changed over the last twenty years; as university fees rise, students expect a certain level of service in return - particularly when it comes to services aimed to maintain and promote health and well-being. With suicide rates among young people at an all-time high even before they enter into university, it begs the question: who is responsible for these changes and when will they come about? Universities and schools function as learning environments. More social services should be set up to take responsibility for mental health concerns that affect more than just students but all other members of society.
