I have just completed my annual trek of going to Toys’R Us for my holiday shopping. As I was waiting for the presents to be gift-wrapped, I read an article about US retailers offering e-gift cards which offer contributions towards college saving plans. I think this is a great idea. Instead of purchasing items that only have an immediate reward and will likely fall out of favour by Chinese New Year, why not contribute to the gift that keeps on giving? With Hong Kong having such a heavy focus on education, I am surprised that there is no variation of e-gift cards to contribute towards education savings plans or gift certificates for lessons or classes.
