Slow and Steady in Study

Many students have a tendency to overlearn – wasting time continuing to study material that has already been mastered. As reported by The British Journal of Psychology, if the goal is long-term retention, reviewing material at a later date seems to be more advantageous. This can be applied to how students use chapter review questions in their textbooks; instead of overlearning everything in the chapter that was just covered, a more effective way of studying would be to answer a variety of questions as a review of previously learnt material.
