Opens new school in Hong Kong
Stamford American School – Hong Kong is a world-class international school offering a rigorous standards-based education for children aged 5 to 18 years old, launching September 2017. We are pleased to grow our Stamford American community following our huge success at our Singapore campus, which today has a vibrant community of over 3,000 students from 70 nationalities. As with our Singapore school, Stamford American in Hong Kong aims to instill an enthusiasm for lifelong learning and a sense of global awareness in every student and let them achieve more than they believe they can.
Stamford American School – Hong Kong is part of Cognita, a global leader in independent education with over 65 schools worldwide. Stamford American draws upon the Cognita group’s wide-ranging international breadth and expertise of educators to share best practice and deliver the highest quality education.
OUR CURRICULUM
Stamford American School – Hong Kong establishes high standards for academic achievement and performance through an interdisciplinary curriculum following the American Education Reaches Out (AERO) and Common Core Plus framework from age 5, culminating in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB DP)* in Grades 11 and 12. A choice to graduate with either the IB Diploma or American High School Diploma, or both, offers your child unparalleled choice and competitive advantage. 90% of our graduates from our Singapore campus were accepted to their 1st choice university or college.
Beyond academic excellence, Stamford American’s educational program emphasizes development of the whole child. We offer specialist programs across all subjects, including a problem-based Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Innovation (STEMinn) Program and structured Physical Education based on the Society of Health and Physical Educators standards. Stamford American’s World Language Program offers 2 daily choices in Chinese and Spanish – two of the world’s most widely spoken languages – as well as a bilingual program in Chinese and English from age 5. Our Visual and Performing Arts Program based on the Massachusetts Arts Curriculum nurtures creativity, self-expression and confidence in every child, traits which extend not only within the class, but have a positive impact on everything our students do at school and beyond the campus.
We are also excited to introduce the highly respected Global Mentor Program from our Singapore campus to students in Hong Kong, where we invite the world’s most inspirational minds, industry leaders, artists and athletes to engage with Stamford American students. Recent mentors at our Singapore campus include Professor Ei-ichi Negishi, 2010 Nobel Laureate for Chemistry, Professor Ada. E. Yonath, 2009 Nobel Laureate for Chemistry and American Olymic Medalists and World Record Swimmers Jessica Hardy, David Plummer, Micah Lawrence, Kevin Cordes and Nathan Adrian.
Stamford American balances its challenging standards-based curriculum with a nurturing educational environment that recognizes that each child is different, each child is unique. From age 5, all students undergo standardized Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP®) assessments in Reading, Math and Science twice a year, allowing us to deliver individual learning plans based on each student’s instructional level and measure their academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year. All students from Pre-Primary (Kindergarten) through Grade 5 will also undergo regular in-class reading assessments through the Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System (BAS), allowing us to deliver individualized reading programs based on each child's reading level.
