Students could start applying to university after getting their A-level results, leaked proposals say

By ITS Education Asia

More information about what students and parents can expect for UK university applications in the future based on a leaked document as reported in The Student Room.

Students could start applying to university after they’ve received their A-level results instead of before, a leaked document by the Department for Education (DfE) has proposed.

The DfE proposals, which were seen by the Guardian, suggested a few different ideas for how a post-qualifications admissions system could still allow universities enough time to process applications. These include pushing university start dates back and bringing A-level results day forward.

The leaked DfE proposals to scrap predicted grades cover a few different suggested ways it could work. These include:

  • Keep results day in August, but push university and college term start dates back to January, so they have five months to process applications
  • Move results day to July and the start of term to mid-October
  • Keep the results day in August and the start of university in September, so universities only have five weeks to process applications
  • Let students apply to university before they get their results, but don’t let universities make offers until after the results have been published.
