First year students tell how discontent over rent during the pandemic snowballed to reflect wider frustrations about how higher education institutions have dealt with the effects of the coronavirus crisis.
Rent strike groups across the country have called for rent reductions and greater flexibility around leaving accommodation this year, after the pandemic pushed classes online, sent thousands into self-isolation and introduced restrictions onto campus.
A very difficult situation for all involved. Students feel they are not getting value for their money but universities are left with little choice as their running costs have not lessened.
