University of California system suspends SAT and ACT requirements

By Mike Li

The Universities of California have suspended SAT and ACT requirements for this year, as too many international students may not get another chance to even take the normally-required exams.

This means that admissions committees will be placing an outsized emphasis on the essays that students write. Having countless activities gives students no advantage under this new application quirk. How students reflect meaningful on themselves, their experiences, and their reasons for going to university are going to mean more than ever before. This is a pivotal decision for a UC system that was once very reliant on scores to sift through massive candidate pools.

If you’re still not convinced that US universities don’t care about perfect SAT/ACT scores, this is proof positive.
