You’ve probably seen the breaking news of a scheme to bribe various people involved in top US university admissions to allow the children of the wealthy to gain places they would not be able to gain on pure academic merit. It engulfs TV and movie celebrities as well as a host of educational institutions. In a way, we can see this as a positive. These schemes are not widespread and they are very difficult to set up. So the removal of this essentially frees up more places to be gained on merit and heightens school awareness. In many ways, there has not been a better time to apply to a top US school based on merit than now.
