US - China trade war is affecting US universities' bottom line

By ITS Education Asia

The Washington Times recently reported that more than 350,000 Chinese students make up 1/3 of all international enrollments at US universities, the majority of who pay full tuition.

As the trade war continues it is likely that the Chinese government may encourage mainland Chinese students to enroll elsewhere. Paul Musgrave, a political science professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, states universities will survive — however operations will definitely be hampered by the loss in revenue.

Some schools are now taking sides, as MIT announced that it will not renew any contract or sign any new deals with Huawei, while Yale is promoting a “steadfast commitment” to students and scholars from around the world.
