If there is one good thing that may have come out of this global pandemic, it’s that certain factors that have put young people at risk of deteriorating mental health have been alleviated. Emerging research shows that switching to online classes during lockdown has inadvertently protected students from some of the usual factors that could lead to poor mental health. Social media - a long-term known “enemy” for the vanguards of mental health - has also paved the way for larger improvements as a means for student connectivity despite minimum face-to-face interaction. However, this is a mixed bag. For many students, a different hazard has now presented itself; with screen fatigue becoming a very real thing we have yet to see the full effects of this crisis on the whole person.
