Alexandra earned a BSc in Mathematics with Business and Management at the University of Manchester and an MSc in Sustainable Development from the University of Sussex. Her tutoring experience is extensive and spans various levels and ages, from primary school children to IB/A-Level students. I've had the privilege of teaching in diverse settings, including the UK, Kenya, and Vietnam, where I've focused primarily on Mathematics and Business
On becoming a teacher:
I became a teacher because I enjoy sharing knowledge and helping others succeed. Teaching allows me to combine my love for mathematics and business with the joy of seeing students overcome challenges and grow in confidence. I believe that education is a powerful tool for personal and professional development, and I am committed to making a positive impact on my students' lives.
I enjoy seeing my students reach their full potential and achieving their goals. It's fulfilling to watch their confidence and understanding grow, leading to increased enjoyment and motivation in their studies. Being part of their academic journey, witnessing their progress, and knowing I played a role in their success brings me great satisfaction.
Other interests that reflect on my personality as a teacher:
I love to read and feel inspired to learn new knowledge and perspectives through books. This love for reading reflects my curiosity and commitment to lifelong learning, qualities I strive to instill in my students. A book that I recently enjoyed was ‘Not the End of the World’ by Hannah Ritchie.
A person I find inspirational and why:
I admire Hans Rosling for his innovative use of statistics and data visualization to reduce global issues and promote sustainable development. His ability to present complex data in an accessible and impactful way has transformed how we understand and address global challenges. Rosling's work has been instrumental in dispelling myths about global development, fostering a more informed and optimistic view of the world's progress, and guiding effective policy-making. I found his book ‘Factfulness’ truly inspiring.
I also find Malala Yousafzai incredibly inspirational for her unwavering commitment to education and women's rights. Despite facing life-threatening adversity, Malala's courage and determination have made her a global advocate for girls' education. Her story is a testament to the power of education to transform lives and the importance of standing up for what you believe in.
Top tip to younger self:
I would tell my younger self to understand that time and pressure are essential for growth, much like how diamonds are formed. Embrace challenges and trust the process, knowing that patience and perseverance will yield results. The pressures you face will refine your skills and character, preparing you for greater achievements.
