About Me
Hi everyone! My name is Audrey and I am currently a Year 11 student studying at Shatin College in Hong Kong. While my hobbies include watching movies and TV shows, learning various random facts, or watersports, I am very STEM focused at school. Physics and mathematics, as well as computer science, rank amongst my top subjects. In particular, quantum computing and aerospace engineering are some of my favourite subjects, and I am taking courses and conducting research on them in my free time. I hope to go into these fields in the future.
Having grown up in Hong Kong all my life, I have noticed time and time again the struggle that the underprivileged in Hong Kong face. As a result, I have not only been hosting weekly STEM sessions for disadvantaged students, but have also been interning at various NGOs, and raised over $12,000HKD during an event that I organised solely. Furthermore, I have been active in various student-led organisations, such as the Global Goals Council and UNICEF club, which I am the president of at my chapter, as well as Biz Sense and much more. These experiences have not only allowed me to develop many skills, but have allowed me to enhance and hone them to ensure that I am able to give my best to all activities that I partake in. And as one of the most renowned and best football players in the world once said - a quote that I live by -, "Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice, and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do."
Project Description
The aging population faces innumerable challenges - one of which being dementia.
Therefore, StrokeDetect is a mobile application that aims to support the elderly and those who are more susceptible and vulnerable to dementia. The app contains three main components: a 10-year stroke risk analysis, a personalised log of all data and a detection algorithm that can be used to determine whether an individual is currently experiencing a stroke. The algorithm works by analysing your facial symmetry, with a near 100% accuracy, and is aimed to launch on the app store in the near future. Further developments of the app would include a voice slurring recognition algorithm, and more developments would be put out on a rolling basis.
A majority of the world’s population lack a medical background, or basic medical knowledge. Family members and caregivers often are unaware when the affected is experiencing a stroke. They often continue, unaware, and in this critical time, many could be receiving crucial medical treatment that could prevent long term ramifications. Therefore, StrokeDetect provides them with a solution to seek medical attention as soon as possible. It is not just an app, but a lifeline for millions of dementia patients and their families.
