Eat to SMILE

About Me

Hello, I am Koto Kajihara. I am 16 years old and go to Hiroshima International School. I have a positive and outgoing personality, and I like to dance, study, and play drums. I believe that through our small actions that we can do, it will eventually turn into big changes that can make the world reach closer to sustainable development, where all of the issues are going to be solved, and to do that, it is important to keep holding the small consciousness about it.

Project Description

My project is called "Eat to SMILE" and it is an organization that donates needed supplies to a local community cafeteria in Hiroshima, organized by a non-profit organization, Hull Pong. This action will start with a short discussion of what the cafeteria needs. Their needs are not specified for the flexibility and applicability of this project. After the discussion, we will be holding a donation at different locations with the help of contributors, for an appropriate amount of time depending on the needs. After acquiring the supplies, we will deliver them to the cafeteria.

People who are using this local community cafeteria include a range of people in different circumstances from children who need meals, or who have to eat alone, to elderly people. Through this project, Goal 1: No Poverty, Goal 2: Zero Hunger, Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, Goal 10: Reduce Inequality, Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals could be achieved. Especially focusing on Goals 2, 11, and 17. Goals 1, 2, 10, and 11 could be achieved because conducting donations, can help the cafeteria to be sustained, allowing the people to keep using the cafeteria. The project's aspect is not only about donations. As I have mentioned, Goals 3, 11, and 17 could be achieved, because the donation is going to be conducted in different places, starting from 3 places (a school, a restaurant, and a barber shop). By making connections between different groups of people, we could develop a united and better community in Hiroshima, further leading to emotional well-being. Adding on to this, since the donation is conducted in different places, it can be an opportunity for people to learn and know about the SDGs.

To bring this project further I am planning to increase the contributors for the donations as I conduct donations over time so that I can spread more awareness about the SDGs, and increase the donation fees. I also hope to expand my donation to not only the local community cafeteria but to other actions that are organized by Hull Pong.
