About Me

Suen Man Ding (Dora) is a purpose-driven individual deeply passionate about bridging gaps between technology, inclusivity, and sustainability attending the Pui Kiu College Hong Kong. Growing up, she was always curious about how small, intentional innovations can transform lives—especially for communities facing everyday barriers others often overlook. Whether it’s volunteering with local organizations that support people with visual impairments, or spending time learning about sustainable design, these experiences have shaped my belief that progress should leave no one behind. She is drawn to problem-solving that combines empathy with action - listening to others’ stories to understand their unmet needs, then collaborating with diverse teams to turn ideas into tangible solutions. Her interest in responsible technology—how it can be both functional and kind to the planet—has only deepened as she has seen the impact of wasteful practices and exclusionary products.

Project Description

MAX (My Ambient X-interpreter) is an assistive technology project focused on UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 10 (Reduced Inequality) and 12 (Responsible Production and Consumption). It aims to empower visually impaired communities and encourage sustainable practices. MAX addresses the needs of visually impaired individuals by creating stylish, everyday smart glasses. These glasses come with AI environmental scanning and bone conduction audio. Unlike bulky or expensive assistive devices, MAX focuses on accessibility. It provides an inclusive solution that helps users be independent in their daily lives, whether they are navigating spaces or engaging with their surroundings. MAX may work with NGOs and offer flexible access options to ensure low-income groups can benefit in the future. This directly supports SDG 10 by lowering the barriers faced by people with disabilities. In terms of environmental impact, MAX represents SDG 12 through its sustainable design. It uses recycled materials for production, features energy-efficient solar charging, and has a take-back program to reduce electronic waste. By involving the visually impaired community in its research and development process, MAX ensures its innovation is inclusive and balances social impact with responsible resource use.
