Family Mask

About Me

Jessie Chung, a young entrepreneur, saw the mask shortages that were occurring in Hong Kong, so she decided to set up Family Mask. Through sheer resourcefulness, she was able to procure a couple of old machines for mask production. Since February she has expanded her factory production tenfold. But while her company is private, many of her initiatives are for the public. Family Mask works with Po Leung Kuk to help distribute masks to those who might be at greatest risk, namely the elderly and low-income families. Family Mask also works with both HK Hospital Authority and Tung Wah Hospitals to make sure that healthcare workers have an abundance of PPE. She is thinking about mask quality every day. Masks that were once lambasted for fraying at the edges are now, fiber-for-fiber, some of the highest quality masks in Hong Kong. She is now one of the YCI’s entrepreneurial ambassadors, and through Family Mask Academy, gives workshops to young students about outreach, product quality, and general entrepreneurship. She is already distilling the knowledge from a year of growing pains and sharing this hard-earned advice with other young entrepreneurs, so they may better navigate the obstacles in their own initiatives.

Project Description

An initiative of the World Health Organisation, World Mental Health Day is observed on 10 October every year, with the overall objective of raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilizing efforts in support of mental health. The Day provides an opportunity for all stakeholders working on mental health issues to talk about their work, and what more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide. At a time when it's needed most, we must come together for #WHMD to support young people's mental health as well as that of marginalised and at-risk communities. Our mission is to smash the stigma surrounding mental illness and to build a community of people who realize that one is never alone. Join thousands of schools, offices, community groups and individuals in wearing yellow to raise awareness for mental health and well-being!
