Improving Breakout Room Discussions in Online Teaching by Using Collaborative Documents

By ITS Education Asia

Here is a great article from Faculty Focus offering some very helpful advice and tips to teachers on how to better run Break Out room discussions when teaching classes online.

It starts by advising that there are two main questions that teachers should ask:

  1. How can I make the instructions for the breakout discussion clear?
  2. How long should I leave students in the breakout group?

The follow up advice given covers topics such as:

  • Creating a Collaborative Document
  • Providing Breakout Group Instructions in the Collaborative Document
  • Using Collaborative Documents During Breakout Groups
  • Monitoring Breakout Discussions

Some really helpful advice given in this article.  A great read for teachers running group classes online.
