Record proportion of Hong Kong high school graduates to be offered spots in universities amid drop in competition

By ITS Education Asia

Chalkface reported earlier in the week on the fall in applications from overseas students for entry into Hong Kong universities.  This article from the SCMP may show a “silver lining” to that story as the drop in demand from overseas students has meant more places have been open for local Hong Kong students to attend universities.

Official data from the joint universities admissions body showed 37.5 per cent, or 15,642, of the more than 41,000 applicants were offered places as first-year students in publicly funded or self-financing bachelor’s degree programmes.

It was the highest percentage since 2012, when the Diploma of Secondary Education (DSE) university entrance exams were introduced.

Here at Chalkface we wish all the best to those students who got into the university course they desired.  Well done and good luck with your studies.
