This article from CNN is looking at efforts to track down students who are not attending their virtual online lessons. The article is from California but the problems are not uncommon in many places around the world where classes have been moved online.
In California's Robla School District, on any given day, up to 200 students are missing from virtual lessons. First, teachers reach out. Then school principals try to make contact -- calling, sometimes seeing if there is a brother or sister in a different class to let them know what's going on. And if all that fails to reach the children and their parents, teams of social workers take up the case, to see what can be done to get students back to class, even virtually.
Chalkface has been following the mixed level of success that online education has been providing to students. We have covered many successful virtual learning stories but also seen multiple instances where online education is failing children.
