Ms Kung Completed her “Certificate for Putonghua Trainers” in The School of Continuing Education (SCE) of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) in 2015 and subsequently obtained a Grade A, Level 2 in National Putonghua Proficiency Test in 2016. She is an extremely experienced teacher in teaching Chinese to all age groups and purposes.
Area of Expertise:
Mandarin Pinyin, rhymes singing, storytelling, speaking, speech techniques, reading comprehension, writing, GAPSK/ KPCC Putonghua Proficiency test, IGCSE, A-level and IB exam techniques and preparation.
Being a teacher:
I like teaching. I can adjust the teaching plan with the student’s level and progress. New elements are added to the syllabus to help students understanding and consolidating the Putonghua’s knowledge. I design diversified teaching materials and merged them with games for students to learn actively.
Admirable person:
Confucius. He advocated prioritizing moral education, and comprehensive development. He said “Let the will be set on the path of duty. Let every attainment in what is good be firmly grasped. Let perfect virtue be accorded with. Let relaxation and enjoyment be found in the polite arts.” and “Draw near to good-hearted people, and study whenever you can.” Education for is everyone, irrespective of background: Everyone has the right to receive education.
Teach according to the student’s ability and level: Understanding personalities and aptitudes of different people. The master said "I do not open up the truth to one who is not eager to get knowledge, nor help out anyone who is not anxious to explain himself. When I have presented one corner of a subject to any one, and he cannot from it learn the other three, I do not repeat my lesson."
Seeking truth from facts: The Master said, "You, shall I teach you what knowledge is? When you know a thing, to understand that you know it; and when you do not know a thing, to understand that you do not know it - this is knowledge."
Harmony of knowledge and action: The Master said, "Learning without thought is labour lost; thought without learning is perilous."
Making study serve the practical purpose: Tsze-hsiâ said, "Mechanics have their shops to dwell in, in order to accomplish their works. The superior man learns, in order to reach to the utmost of his principles."
Inspiring person:
After graduating from high school in 1982, Jack Ma took the first college entrance examination and scored 1 in Maths. In 1983, he took the college entrance examination for the second time, but failed with scored 19 in Maths. With the help from his father, Jack rode a tricycle to send books to 3 magazines. He worked in the morning and went to school at night. He took the third time of college entrance examination in 1984 and he scored 89 in Maths. He then entered the foreign language school in Hangzhou Normal University. In 1988, he graduated from the Foreign Language Department of Hangzhou Normal University (now Hangzhou Normal University) with a bachelor's degree in English. He has encountered many failures and setbacks both in studying and in business. From him, I see that failure is the mother of success, and persistence is victory.
