Design Your Life At 25

About Me

Agnes is an intellectually curious and creative high school freshman at the Canadian International School of Hong Kong. Her common interests are mostly sports-related like basketball, netball, taekwondo. She is also fueled by a creative mind, and therefore enjoys drawing and writing poems. She likes solving problems by collaborating with a group of like-minded teammates. She has actively engaged in various initiatives related to the SDGs. Being an active citizen, she has co-founded initiatives to address specific needs in the community and globally. “Design Your Life at 25” guides over 300 teenagers from 14 countries to plan out their future after experiencing the struggle to decide on her own future. Growing up in Hong Kong, a city with a large wealth gap, she has co-founded Light Their Rights HK with the aim to bridge the gap and help the underprivileged and homeless. She has also been actively promoting SDG awareness inside her school community as an active member of the Global Goals Council at CDNIS which hosts HK’s largest youth-led sustainable event - the annual HK SDG Summit. These experiences have developed her soft skills like leadership, time management and organisation and have expanded her perspective on global issues. In addition, it contributed to her personal growth - overcoming obstacles, stepping out of her comfort zone and thinking of new innovations. Ultimately, it gave Agnes a sense of purpose in life and really reflected the message of "passing it forward".

Project Description

Design Your Life at 25, is a student-led organization aiming to guide teenagers (aged 12-18) on a self discovery journey to plan out their future and design their life at 25. Teenagers will have a chance to understand more about themselves - their choices and their interests with our 3-hour workshop where they design their own roadmap from the present age until age 25. Our aim is to empower each teenager to become the architect of their own life and live according to their own aspirations.

To date, we have positively impacted the lives of over 300 teenagers across 14 different countries. Our team has presented our ideas and initiatives at prestigious events such as May Catalyst, Global Goals Week, Kids4kids Youth Summit, and the UNITAR Youth Ambassador Asia Pacific Program. We are proud to have organized the inaugural Youth Life Designers Summit, where more than 100 teenagers embarked on an inspiring self-discovery journey with us in person.

For our UNITAR pitch this year, we pitched our creative scale-up in Egypt. Drawing from previous experiences with participants from less developed countries, we realised a common problem: language barrier, bandwidth concerns and poor user experience with workshop resources. Many participants relied on their smartphones to engage in our workshops, making tools like Google Docs and Google Slides less accessible. To address this global need, we have decided to start with the Egyptian market as our representative market. Our plan involves developing a gamified app and establishing a local community with leaders who can facilitate workshops in Arabic. This solution prioritizes accessibility, inclusivity, and leverages emerging technologies to enhance the workshop experience for participants.

Achievements Since UNITAR:

Agnes, a member of the CDNIS Global Goals Council, is currently organizing the 2024 HK SDG Summit. Her ultimate vision is to expand the event into an international SDG Summit that brings together change makers from around the world.

Additionally, Agnes and her brother, Bryan, who are co-founders of Design Your Life at 25, have been invited as youth speakers to Design Thinking in Action 2024, where they will share their personal experiences. Design Your Life at 25 was honored with the prestigious "impact" award at the 2023 UNITAR YAAP for their creative scale-up idea in Egypt. As part of their efforts, they are currently establishing a local community in Egypt led by Mohamed Ibrahim.

In addition to their work with Design Your Life at 25, Agnes and her team members at Light Their Rights HK are actively organizing workshops for underprivileged children and visiting the homeless to engage with them. They have planned Christmas workshops in December, where underprivileged children will have the opportunity to write Christmas cards for the homeless. These cards will be distributed by the team during their visits to the homeless.
