With the world economy going digital at an accelerated pace triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic, there is an urgent need to strengthen girls’ education and equip them with the necessary technological and leadership skills to reduce gender inequality.
Poverty is one of the most important factors in determining whether a girl can access and complete her education, according to World Bank. According to Unicef, 132 million girls worldwide are out of school, including 34.3 million of primary school age, 30 million of lower secondary school age, and 67.4 million of upper secondary school age. Investing in girls’ education strengthens economies and reduces inequality, Unicef said.
