About The School
DSC is a Direct Subsidy Scheme (DSS) school which means it receives subsidy from the government and in return it must integrate the local Hong Kong Curriculum into the Canadian curriculum. This makes it a popular school for local and expatriate students. Students have the choice of studying the Ontario programme from elementary (Primary) through to Grade 12 or the Alberta programme from Grades 1 to 9. In addition, it offers English as a Second Language (ESL) Programme. DSC also offers an Alternative Program for students in Grade 1 to 6 in the Taikoo Shing Campus. The Alternative Program offers the Ontario curriculum with a focus on skill development in unison with Passion-Based Learning, Project-Based Learning, and STEAM activities in an English setting. Entrance into this program is competitive and students must successfully pass an entrance process which includes testing for English proficiency, a detailed review of current and past achievement in Math, Science, and the Arts, and an interview.
DSC is an ideal choice for non-native English speakers, local Hong Kong students, and Canadians. And as a DSS school, fees are significantly cheaper. As part of the responsibilities under accreditation with Ontario, DSC must maintain at least 80% Ontario certified teachers within the Secondary Section and undergo an annual school inspection by a School Inspector from Canada.
