Curriculum

A British International School, the curriculum is aligned closely with the English National Curriculum and the Early Years and Foundation Stage Framework and further supplemented through an ambitious and intertwined specialist programme of study to include Chinese language, Music, Performing Arts, Physical Education and Aquatics classes.

Developed specifically to meet the needs of the talented, multi-lingual, international student body, our programme of study has been designed to inspire, enthuse and enthral, on the understanding that happy children learn best. It supports the development of a strong foundation of knowledge and understanding whilst nurturing a skillset fundamental to creative and critical engagement.

Inside The School

Parent Reviews

We joined Shrewsbury in August 2020 having conducted extensive research into the international school sector here in Hong Kong. While the breathtaking facilities initially caught our eye, it was the warmth and care we experienced during the journey of enrolment that persuaded us that this would be the right school for our daughter. Giselle joined her Nursery class as a full-day student and the opportunities extended to students far exceed anything available elsewhere. Swimming classes, gymnastics lessons, music theory sessions, she had full access to just about every facility on campus immediately. She has grown in confidence and broadened her interests - we couldn’t be happier.

We had lots of options available to us, but the care, attention and commitment towards the experiences of primary aged children at Shrewsbury is undoubtedly unique. Our daughter is seen and known - the Principal welcomes her to school personally each morning and greets everyone by name. She has made exceptional academic progress and has become more confident and independent as a result.

Shrewsbury students enjoy an incredible and unique range of opportunities,” highlights mum “The facilities on campus are unrivalled, but it’s the quality of the relationships shared that makes Shrewsbury really stand out. Staff are incredibly attentive and services at every level are astoundingly well personalised. My son is thriving in amongst a group of children and adults that care deeply about his success and his wellbeing.

Specialist Programmes

All Shrewsbury students benefit from an engrained commitment to specialist study. While connected to the thematic programme, lessons on Chinese language, Music, Performing Arts, Physical Education and Aquatics are all supported by specialist teaching staff.

Shrewsbury students engage with the Chinese language every day as part of an ambitious three tiered programme of linguistic and cultural study. Chinese language lessons centre upon regular rehearsal and practical application. We use a broad range of stimulating resources and encourage exploration and experimentation in order to develop linguistic confidence in every child. Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced classes run simultaneously within the Primary School to ensure that prior experience is recognised, validated and utilised.

The Music programme at Shrewsbury has been designed to inspire, connect, and engage in recognition that our understanding and appreciation of music impacts upon health and happiness, as well as achievement. The delivery of weekly Music and Choral lessons allows students to learn to play a developmentally-appropriate range of instruments, build an awareness of pitch and melody, and appreciate the cultural and historical context of the music they hear.

The Physical Education programme at Shrewsbury has been designed to support the development of a life-long love of physical activity in recognition that our understanding and appreciation of movement impacts upon health and happiness, as well as achievement. Learning supports the development of agility, balance, coordination and cooperation.

The curriculum for Physical Education offers designated focus upon athletics, gymnastics, dance and games, and is split to allow for the regular teaching of aquatics.
