Curriculum

Stamford uses an American standards-based curriculum based on the rigorous and proven American Education Reaches Out (AERO) and Common Core Plus standards that develop a strong foundation in the core subjects such as language, art, math, humanities, and science. We deliver this curriculum using an inquiry-based approach across themes and nurture every child through a personalized learning approach to foster curiosity and independent thinking. Our programs culminate with three diploma options, including the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBDP).

In addition to our adopted American standards, the core of our curriculum has several elements that focus on developing the whole child. These elements include global citizenship, approaches to learning, international mindedness, service learning, building character, and social-emotional skills. These elements are crucial to fostering successful individuals to achieve both academic success and real-world skills. As life outside the classroom requires individuals to work across a broad range of skills and subject areas when solving problems, we use a cross-curricular approach to allow students to combine multiple skills and areas of knowledge. Hands-on project-based learning not only engages learners but allows skill application rather than just testing content memory.

As an IB world school, our curriculum is broad and balanced. Students study a range of specialist subjects, including a modern language (Mandarin or Spanish), visual arts, drama, music, and physical and health education, providing excellent preparation for our three graduation diploma options. Unique to Stamford, our pioneering STEMinn program develops students with the technology skills needed to excel in the careers of today. Our students gain hands-on experience working with industry professionals for course credit in our Cornerstones program in high school.

Inside The School

Parent Reviews

"Stamford American School Hong Kong really cares about the students and their families. They will listen to their concerns and opinions and act upon accordingly. Academic-wise, teachers will assess individuals and deliver personalized learning. Results orientated parents will care about this a lot. But for me, the school's emphasis on the Second Step learning is beyond amazing. Doing well in results means a lot, but being good and doing good are even more important. School never stops improving itself, keep finding ways and areas to work on. Keep it up and #StamfordStrong!" - Mr. Yeung.

Stamford American School has excellent teachers who have consistently nurtured my child's overall development. During this unforeseen pandemic situation, the school made no compromises on student's learning engagements. As a parent I have seen Stamford grown over the years making careful decisions at every step, ensuring the well-being of the whole school community, especially their students. – G3 parent

My girl absolutely loves Stamford and looks forward to going to school every day. We are delighted to see her development and her knowledge grew so much since she started in Stamford few months ago. The teachers are dedicated, and the classes are very well planned with wide range of education offered. – Pre-Primary parent

"My son loves his school. Teachers are very nice and caring. They have put tremendous effort to make their online learning wors. All the learning material and homework are very well organized in Apps. A great school that aims at personalized education." - Ms. Yeung.

Specialist Programmes

Two stand-out specialist offerings are:

Cornerstones and STEMinn programs to develop in-demand skills both academically and for life. Students experience practical hands-on learning through the school's STEMinn (science, technology, engineering, math and innovation) program, unique to Stamford and part of the through-train curriculum to foster collaboration, critical thinking and resilience in addition to their technical skills.

In Grade 9 and 10, students gain additional experience in the Cornerstones Program, which partners students with industry experts such as MIT in a semester-long project to build their creativity and confidence and their portfolios. To support well-being, there is a weekly dedicated lesson in socio-emotional skills that enhance well-being, confidence and build resilience at each grade level so graduates are ready not only for work but to manage a successful life. After school, they will be able to explore their passions with over 19 Co-Curricular Activities on offer.

In addition to these special programs all students child to participate in high-quality specialist programs for athletics, arts (visual, musical and performing) and daily modern language (Mandarin or Spanish) taught by subject specialists qualified in their field. In Elementary your child would also have the opportunity to further develop their appreciation of language and culture in the Bilingual classroom option (Mandarin/English).
