About The School

Owned by the Yew Chung Education Foundation, YCIS Hong Kong is part of a network of schools in various major cities in China, and Silicon Valley in the US. YCIS provides international education to expatriate and local children aged 6 months – 18 years old. The curriculum prepares children to become bilingually competent in English and Chinese. Students in lower primary have daily Chinese lesson and a weekly Chinese studies class; there is a Western and Chinese teacher in each classroom. Students in Upper Primary study one hour of Chinese language every day, based on their learning level. Students of elementary aged, start to learn about Chinese culture in more depth, and they participate in one hour of Chinese Studies lessons with their Co-Teachers each week. An important element to the curriculum is the ‘Character Education’. Based on the global Character First programme, these lessons teach and encourage positive social and Christian values like kindness, diligence, and responsibility. A unique feature of the lower primary program besides the bilingual education is the ‘Artist in Residence’ programme which involves various art activities and a compulsory music programme. In the Upper Primary programme, children in Years 4–6, start to develop independence and heighten their critical-thinking skills, all necessary for their successful transition into the YCIS Secondary programme.
